The
Canadian Dental Association
recommends that children have their first dental appointment by the
time they are one. What they don't mention is how hard it can be to
get a toddler to sit through that dental appointment. Relax! We've
got you covered.
1.
Schedule your appointment with a Dentist
in Calgary
at a time when you know your child will be tired or cranky. Shoot for
first thing in the morning or right after nap.
2.
Start talking about your Calgary dentist now. Mention the dentist and
staff by name to your child and how you are so excited to visit them
next month. The more you talk, the less scary the new people become.
3.
We all know that a visit to the dentist can include an extended
period in the waiting room. Come prepared! Buy a special toy or book
just for the occasion. You can even let your child pick it out for
the big visit.
4.
Role play with dental toys ahead of your appointment with your
dentist in Calgary. You can purchase pretend dental tools online and
practice examining each other's teeth. Make a game out of who can
open the widest and say, "Ahhhhhh ..."!
5.
Sunglasses are another secret weapon every new parent should have in
their arsenal. Those dental lights are annoying to adults and its
even worse for kids. A snazzy new pair of sunglasses can do the trick
and distract junior long enough for the dentist to do his or her job.
If this visit ends in tears or a refusal to open, it's ok. Simply re-schedule and try again in a month or two. Your dentist will understand.
